NCO Alpine serves as a feeding system to the Canadian Alpine Ski Team for young athletes from the National Capital Region of Canada. Members of the NCO
either reside in the National Capital Region or come to the region to represent
the Nation's Capital Region in the world of ski racing. The objectives of the
program are to develop skiing excellence among youth and provide a high quality
alpine ski racing program in a competitive enjoyable atmosphere that allows each
athlete to develop, mature and achieve their own potential, both as a skier
and young adult. The NCO Alpine Ski Team is composed of the top competitive skiers selected from various clubs in the National Capital Division and the Zone de ski Outaouais. The NCO FIS (Federation International du Ski) team comprises athletes aged 15-19 years who compete provincial, national and international
level races. Skiers aged 12-14 compete at local and provincial circuits
focused on skills development. FIS Team members do a minimum of 15 to 20 race starts. Races are selected according to the athlete's point profile and seasonal results. Each race allows each racer to achieve seasonal goals of a lower point profile. There is a strict minimum 3:1 training to race ratio and athletes must have proper training to attend races. There is approximately 80 to 100 days of on snow training with the team. The FIS team starts dryland training in early fall with a testing session. The Juvenile Team members race in the local series races of the NCD and Outaouais Zone vying for a berth in their respective Provincials at the end of the season with the expectation of advancing to the Canadians. The ratio of races to training is in the ratio of 5:1. These athletes train for both Technical and Speed events. They will spend up to 90 days on the snow for training and racing beginning in Colorado in November with a three week training camp. |
